Overview

Ensuring patient safety in the ambulatory care setting poses unique challenges for both providers and patients. This program will identify top clinical and patient safety risks for ambulatory care settings and outline practical strategies and best practices for mitigating these risks and providing safer patient care.

Faculty

Carlye Hendershot, MSN, Senior Patient Safety and Risk Management Consultant, ECRI.

Carlye Hendershot is a senior patient safety and risk management consultant at ECRI, providing clinical risk and patient safety consultation and education for healthcare clients across ambulatory and acute health sectors. Carlye previously practiced as an RN and family nurse practitioner in a wide variety of clinical settings. She has also served as a nursing home surveyor; risk manager and patient safety consultant for a medical malpractice insurer; and in-house legal nurse consultant, where she collaborated with attorneys on medical malpractice defense and other healthcare-related compliance and litigation matters. Carlye has presented and written extensively on clinical risk management, medical-legal, and patient safety topics, with a particular passion for improving maternal health and safety and addressing healthcare disparities in ambulatory and primary healthcare settings.
