Webinar – Allegations of Abuse: Safeguarding Your Organization and Community

July 13, 2023
10:00am - 11:00am Pacific Time
CHI owner insured hospital and long-term care risk managers, patient safety officers, human resources, and organization personnel that participate in investigations and process improvement.

An allegation of abuse made by a patient against a care team member can be frightening, unsettling and disruptive for the person making the allegation, the care team member, and the organization. In addition, such an allegation of abuse can create the perfect storm resulting in a regulatory finding, criminal actions and possibly a civil suit.

This presentation will discuss the key elements of a prevention plan, review how to best provide for an organizational response should an allegation occur and discuss the insurance implications for such an incident.

At the end of the webinar, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify clear steps that ensure for a thorough and credible investigation if an allegation of abuse is made against staff or providers by a patient or a family member.
  2. Describe the legal reasons to report inappropriate interaction, abuse, and neglect by staff members.
  3. Evaluate areas where implicit bias can influence identifying, investigating and responding to allegations of abuse.
