Overview
ECRI’s 2023 list of Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns identifies potential sources of harm for patients and staff. We believe these risks require the greatest focus for the coming year, so this webinar will offer actionable, system-based approaches for reducing these risks, and supports for healthcare organizations to help them achieve total systems safety.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this webinar, participants should be able to:
- Describe how ECRI and the ISMP PSO use a learning system approach to create and disseminate the list of Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns.
- Discuss the impact of each of the ECRI Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns for 2023.
- Evaluate the role implicit bias plays in the Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns.
- Review how elements of a total systems approach to safety and recommendations for improvement can be used to address each of the concerns.

This webinar has been approved for 1 contact hour of Continuing Education Credit toward fulfillment of the requirements of ASHRM designations of FASHRM (Fellow) and DFASHRM (Distinguished Fellow) and towards CPHRM renewal.
Faculty
Shannon Davila, MSN, RN, CPPS, CIC, CPHQ, FAPIC
Shannon currently serves as the Director of ECRI’s Total Systems Safety. With a clinical background in adult critical care nursing, Shannon specializes in infection prevention, patient safety and healthcare quality improvement. She currently sits on the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety.
She has authored a book and published several articles that focus on the importance of infection prevention. In 2016, Shannon was honored with the APIC Heroes of Infection Prevention Award. She has served as APIC Northern New Jersey Chapter President and Chapter Legislative Representative.
Shannon has served in the United State Air Force and is appointed to sit on the New Jersey Commission for Women Veterans. Shannon is certified in just culture, patient safety, infection control, healthcare quality, as a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer and High Reliability coach. She received her BSN from the University of Southern Maine, her MSN from Walden University, and in 2020 was designated by APIC as a fellow in infection prevention (FAPIC).
