The prevalence of violence in health care organizations only continues to rise.  We owe our community, employees, patients and visitors the safest experience possible in our facilities.  Clearly defined processes to assess threats and prevent violence are necessary but can be challenging to implement.  Please join us for this one hour webinar discussing threat assessment and strategies for managing those threats.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the webinar, the participant should be able to:

  1. Review basic components of a workplace violence prevention program.
  2. Describe effective organizational, employee, visitor and patient threat assessment.
  3. Identify strategies to monitor and adjust workplace violence prevention program components to meet organizational needs.

Faculty

Mark Reed, CHPA & Jonathan Westall, CHPA, CPP, PCI

 

 Mark Reed, CHPA, is currently the Director of Support Services at MLK Jr. Community Hospital in Los Angeles, CA overseeing Security, Safety, Emergency Management, PBX, Parking, and numerous other programs. He previously was the Security Manager at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. Mark spent 15 years working in Law Enforcement at various Federal, State, and local correctional facilities.  Mark was also Honorably Discharged after serving 8 years in the United States Army.

Mark holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University and is pursuing his Master’s Business Administration through Western Governors University.  Mark is also certified in Homeland Security from Arizona State University and a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator through the International Association Healthcare Security & Safety. He is a volunteer leader with ASIS and has held various leadership positions for the Greater Los Angeles Chapter.  Mark is currently the Chair of the LA/OC Chapter of IAHSS, serves on the IAHSS Foundation Board, IAHSSF Research Committee, and is a member of the IAHSS Guidelines Committee. Mark was recognized by Campus Safety Magazine as the 2019 Director of the Year. Under Mark’s leadership, the MLKCH Public Safety team was recognized as the 2019 Outstanding Security Team at the OSPAs presented by ASIS.  He also chairs the Hospital Association of Southern California’s Security and Safety Committee.

Mark enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, hiking, and appreciating the great outdoors.

 

 Jonathan Westall, CHPA, CPP, PCI is currently the Vice President of Ancillary Services at MLK Jr. Community Hospital in South Los Angeles. He previously held multiple positions at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena including Manager of Security, Director of Security, and finally Director of Support Services. Prior to working in the acute care setting, Jonathan oversaw Security, Emergency Response, and Parking operations for Sony PlayStation and its subsidiary groups across the United States. Jonathan spent 8 years working in various Federal, State, and local correctional facilities where he oversaw security operations.

Jonathan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice w/ a minor in Sociology from Upper Iowa University and a Master’s degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Grand Canyon University.

He is an IAHSS volunteer leader currently The International Board’s VP/Secretary and previously The LA/OC Chapter Chair. Jonathan is currently on the Sponsorship Committee for The American College of Healthcare Executives, SoCal Chapter. He is the former Chair of the Hospital Association of Southern California’s Safety and Security Committee, as well as a longtime ASIS member having served in various leadership roles for that organization as well.

Jonathan is a native of Massachusetts and is a huge Boston sports fan. He enjoys hiking, working out, and true crime documentaries.
