Overview
Social media has an influence in nearly all industries, including healthcare, with the near instant ability to connect with others. Now, more than ever, patients are providing their prospective in real time during the height of their reactionary emotions. Healthcare risk professionals face many challenges regarding the identification, management, and mitigation of these risky situations on social media. This educational session will provide attendees tools to formulate responses in compliance with regulatory bodies, discuss methods for conducting a social media risk assessment, identify successful mitigation strategies that maintain privacy and organizational security, and introduce attendees to elements of creating a social media policy based on best practices.
At the end of the webinar, the participant should be able to:
- Explain the risks and opportunities that healthcare risk managers face by using a risk assessment to assist with identification to lead to successful mitigation strategies.
- Identify elements of social media policies and procedures that have been implemented into best practices in the industry and utilize the elements as tool to create an individualized policy in one’s own organization.
- Formulate appropriate responses to various patient posts online, including grievances, medical questions, and notes of appreciation.
- Evaluate areas where implicit bias can impact responding to social media posts.
