Overview

This webinar will discuss recent trends in both acute and skilled care staffing and how staffing shortages or variability can impact patient outcomes, including falls and other adverse events. Strategies to endure staffing challenges and sustain efforts to prevent falls will be reviewed, incorporating the role of implicit bias in falls prevention.

Faculty

Shannon Rose, MPH, COTA/L, LTC-CIP

Ms. Rose has 8+ years of clinical experience providing skilled care as a COTA/L for geriatric populations across the continuum of care. In 2018, she earned her Masters in Public Health and joined ECRI’s Aging Services team who provide risk management, quality improvement, and resident safety services to aging services organizations nationwide. She led a 3-year Falls Collaborative for 12 multi-site aging services organizations who implemented quality improvement projects leading to an 11% decrease in fall rates and $1.1 million in savings. Considered an expert in falls prevention, Ms. Rose is often consulted on strategies to prevent falls, creating evidence-based guidelines, toolkits, and presentations to help aging services organizations improve their falls prevention programs. Ms. Rose also earned her Long-Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention in 2022 and works with leaders in aging services to improve their infection prevention and control programs.
