Risk Management Role with Claims Management Services

The frequency and severity of claims provides the baseline for the choices of Risk Management activities provided to CHI members.

Risk Management works closely with Claims Management Services to extract as much information as possible on the scope of claims activities so that:

  • Risk Management consultants can intervene as soon as possible with the client on some mitigation strategies for immediate implementation.
  • Lessons learned can be shared with other clients.
  • Risk Management resources are spent where they count the most.

To accomplish these goals Risk Management will review claim files and loss runs, call the claims specialist about specific concerns, invite claims staff to education programs with clients, meet with claims staff periodically for round table meetings on issues, obtain claims input on publications on risk issues, participate with claims in service team meetings with clients, and work with claims staff to improve accuracy of Risk Management coding of claims files.
